REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KENDARI -- The US Consul General based in Surabaya praised the economic growth in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi, which has surpassed the national growth rate.
"I see that the economic growth here has reached 10.5 percent, and it is far above the national growth rate of some 5.04 percent," Head of the Political and Economic Section of the US Consulate General in Surabaya Jett Thomason stated during a visit to Kendari on Wednesday.
Thomason said the growth indicated the positive economic development in the region as it had several areas of economic potential.
"I am keen to encourage entrepreneurs in the United States to identify potential areas for further economic investment," Thomason remarked.
He noted that the tourism sector in Kendari was one of the key areas to be developed to make it the gateway to Wakatobi.
"So far, we only know about Wakatobi. But, actually, tourism in Kendari can be developed to make the city a gateway to Wakatobi," he added.
