REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia is committed to improving its active role and leadership in the United Nations (UN), according to a press statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and received by Antara here on Wednesday.
The statement was confirmed by the Indonesian Ambassador, Dian Triansyah Djani, who presented his credentials as the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Indonesia to the United Nations to the Secretary General of the UN, Ban Ki-moon, on April 12, 2016 at the UN Headquarters in New York.
In a meeting with the UN Secretary General, Ambassador Djani said Indonesia continues to promote the principle of multilateralism in addressing global issues, especially those that have direct impacts on the national interests of Indonesia.
Ambassador Djani reiterated Indonesia's commitment to continue improving cooperation with the UN, and specifically underlined the vision of Indonesia to enhance its role in UN peacekeeping missions.
The ambassador also expressed Indonesia's commitment to contribute to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030, as well as the establishment of a world order based upon freedom, peace and social justice.
Indonesia will continue to support the independence of the Palestinians and respect for human rights, as well as develop cooperation.
The UN Secretary General expressed his welcome to Ambassador Djani and appreciation for the important role Indonesia plays in the United Nations, especially as the country providing the 10th largest number of peacekeepers.
Ban Ki-moon also said he appreciated Indonesian leadership on climate change, along with the Sustainable Development Agenda in 2030, and the world's humanitarian missions.
The UN Secretary General urged Indonesia to maintain its leadership in the United Nations.
