REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAYAPURA -- The Australian Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia, is helping the Papua provincial administration to improve the skills of its human resources to face the challenges posed by the ASEAN Economic Community.

Deputy Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Justin Lee stated here on Thursday that education and training on economy was one of the priority areas of cooperation for improving Papuan human resources.

"Cooperation in education is conducted in the form of a scholarship program," Lee said.

Meanwhile, in the economic sector, the assistance aims at improving the skills of the Papuan workforce to boost their competency as compared to their counterparts from other countries, he noted.

"We provide educational assistance and improve skills, so that Papuans can compete at work, both at the national and regional level," Lee emphasized.

He explained that economic activities required a skilled workforce.

"We have a good working relationship with the government of Indonesia and in particular, with the provincial administration of Papua," he affirmed.

He hoped that cooperation in other areas would be established between the governments of Indonesia and Australia.
