On piracy, expert says Abu Sayyaf to show existence

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Abu Sayyaf that allegedly taken hostage 10 Indonesian citizen in Moro, Philippines is hardlined actor in Philippines. Abu Sayyaf itself stated it supported ISIS and opening military basis in Moro. But, the action that he did in the middle of sea between Tarakan and Philippines is on of way to showing his existence again.

UI Military Expert Muradi assesed this hostage have two purposes. First, he is wants to attract international attention that they still exist in terrorism world. Secondly, they have purpose to get money by taken hostage 10 Indonesia citizen.

This hostage situtation not just push Indonesia, but also Philippines and the other countries. Abu Sayyaf ask Rp 14,3 billion. They did all the option to get money to continues the ideology.

''This the motive was war terrorism, not just an ordinary hijacking. But, they wants exintence and money,'' Muradi said on Thursday.

Although not the first time Indonesia become hostage, but in the Abu Sayyaf case Indonesia assesed not reckless. He compared it with the hijacking that happen in Somalia. On that hijacker the motive is money oriented. Somalia citizen deliberately as a respons from the country that failed.
