REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TAIPEI -- The National Security Bureau (NSB) has compiled a list of 35 suspected international terrorists and will constantly update the list as part of its efforts to monitor and respond to the threat posed by foreign terrorists, NSB Director-General Yang Kuo-chiang said Monday.
Taiwan ranked 113th in last year's Institute for Economics and Peace's Global Terrorism Index, showing that terrorism had only minimal impact on the country, and there is no immediate terror threat to the country even though it is not entirely risk-free, Yang said during a legislative session.
Yang was giving a briefing on measures to prevent foreign nationals from engaging in terrorist activities in Taiwan in the wake of the Brussels terror attacks.
Asked how many organizations the NSB has identified as foreign terrorist groups, Yang said that most of these groups are from Muslim countries and some from Southeast Asia.
Yang said that the NSB has compiled a list of 35 suspected foreign terrorists who are barred from entry into Taiwan.
Last year, several of these suspected terrorists made transit through Taiwan or attempted to enter but were barred from entry into the country, NSB Deputy Director-General Wang Teh-lin added.
The NSB has also shared information with many countries and territories to help track and stem the flow of foreign terrorists. These include the United States, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore and the European Union, according to Yang.
