REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KENDARI -- A member of the Southeast Sulawesi Provincial Legislative Assembly (DPRD) Muhammad Poli has called for the development of coastal areas in the province to boost the regional economy.

"Our coastal areas, with their superiority, have huge economic potential, and therefore, they should be developed optimally," Poli remarked here on Friday.

He noted that Southeast Sulawesi, with several islands having a long coastline, can serve as the hub for economic development in the coastal areas to boost the welfare of the local community.

"The province is directly adjacent to Bone Bay, Flores Sea, and Banda Sea, and it has a huge marine economic potential that can be developed optimally," he affirmed.

He added that besides the beaches, the province also had large coastal areas, which had the potential for aquaculture development.

"Therefore, the regional and provincial governments should cooperate to develop a marine economy in the coastal areas for the welfare of the local community," he noted.
