REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian Army (TNI AD) is ready to deploy its personnel to help police secure the fifth extraordinary Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit to be held in Jakarta from March 6 to 7.
"We are preparing the personnel. The security precaution is more about the task of securing state guests' visit," the chief of the Army's information service Brigadier General M Sabrar Fadhilah said while visiting Antara news agency's office on Thursday.
The security precaution is intended to show the world that Indonesia is safe, he said.
"Of course, I hope that the media would play a role in echoing good news about the preparation for the OIC Extraordinary Summit," he said.
However, he refused to divulge the number of Army personnel that will assist the police in securing the two-day meeting.
"The number of personnel who will be involved (in the security precaution) is large. Don't disrupt the OIC Summit. We are ready," he said.
During the summit, the Jakarta regional military command will deploy 3,600 personnel.
"The security precaution is very important to ensure security in and around Jakarta during the OIC Extraordinary Summit and thus, it will run in a peaceful, smooth and conducive way," the Chief of Staff of the Jakarta Regional Military Command, Brigadier General Ibnu Triwidodo said.
