REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- A supervisory body of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) should not intervene in the process of examination, investigation, and prosecution of a corruption case handled by the anti-graft agency, according to a House's party faction.

"The KPK's supervisory body should not intervene in the examination, investigation, and prosecution process being handled by the KPK," Jazilul Fawaid, secretary of the faction of the National Awakening Party (FPKB) in the House of Representatives (DPR), noted at the Parliament building here on Thursday.

Fawaid remarked that all institutions should be supervised, but the supervision mechanism should be regulated. The supervision on the KPK by a supervisory body is regulated in the revision of the law on KPK.

Fawaid explained that the function of the supervisory body was to obtain a periodic report on KPK's performance.

"Many people question the thought process of the supervisory body, believing that it would meddle in the wiretapping activities conducted by the KPK. It is not true as it would instead reinforce the basis of wiretapping," he pointed out.

Jazilul said that the FPKB supported the revision of the KPK law, but the amendment should strengthen the anti-graft body.

Jazilul affirmed that his faction would present its official stand on the revision of the KPK law during the DPR's plenary session.

"We support the revision of the KPK law if it is aimed at reinforcing the anti-graft body, but this is not our official stand as it has not yet been submitted in DPR's plenary meeting," he clarified.

On Wednesday night, the DPR postponed its plan to hold a plenary meeting on Thursday (Feb. 18) to discuss and endorse the draft revision of the KPK law as its initiative proposal.

The DPR deferred the plan to hold the plenary meeting as there was only one leader of the DPR who was present in Jakarta on Thursday. Law No.17/2014 on the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), DPR, Regional Representative Council (DPD), and Regional Legislative Assembly (DPR) stipulates that a plenary meeting of the DPR should be attended by at least two leaders of the House to arrive at a decision.

The DPR's plenary meeting on Thursday has been scheduled to endorse the draft revision of the KPK law to become its initiative proposal.
