PM Nguyen Tan Dung invites Jokowi to visit Vietnam

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, CALIFORNIA -- Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung invited Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to visit his country when they met in the United States on the sidelines of the US-ASEAN Summit on Monday.

Dung extended an invitation to the Indonesian leader while they held bilateral talks on the sidelines of the summit at Tuscany 2, Miramonte Resort, Indian Wells, California, on Monday morning (Tuesday morning in Jakarta).

At the meeting, President Jokowi was accompanied by Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, Trade Minister Thomas Lembong, chief of presidential staff Teten Masduki, and member of the presidential communication team Ari Dwipayana.

Meanwhile, the Vietnamese delegation led by Prime Minister Dung comprised Minister of Planning and Investment Bui Quang Vinh, Minister of Trade Vu Huy Hoang, Deputy Minister of Public Security To Lam Dan, Deputy Minister of Defense Nguyen Chi Vinh, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung, and Deputy Chairman of the Government office Nguyen Xuan Thanh.

The meeting took place after President Jokowi held bilateral talks with his Laos counterpart Choummaly Sayasone.

"I take this opportunity to extend an invitation (to President Jokowi) to visit Vietnam," Dung stated.

Jokowi expressed delight on meeting the Vietnamese prime minister.

"I want to raise several issues at this meeting; first, being trade and investment cooperation; second, my plan to visit Vietnam; and third, maritime borders and the ASEAN," he explained.
