REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MEDAN -- North Sumatra's Police will launch "Operation Liong" to guard worshipers during Chinese Lunar New Year that falls on February 8.
The operation is being undertaken in accordance with an instruction issued by the Chief of the North Sumatra Police, Inspector General Ngadino, to all police units in the province, spokesman of the provincial police Senior Commissioner Helfi Assegaf said here on Friday.
Every police officer has been tasked with monitoring the situation and detect at an early stage any security issue, he said.
The efforts will be carried out prior to, during and after the Lunar New Year celebration, he remarked.
Tighter security measures will be applied in Chinese temples and at crowded public facilities.
A unit of the police mobile brigade will be on standby to respond to any emergency.
Every single personnel involved in the operation has been told to be professional, not be arrogant nor underestimate any development, Assegaf stated.
