REPUBLIKA.CO.ID,NGAWI -- Some 117 poor families in villages in Ngawi District, East Java Province, which had previously lacked access to electricity, will benefit from free electrical wiring provided by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

"The electrical wiring will be installed in February. Every household will receive up to 450 watts of electricity in their homes," Head of Terang Untuk Bangsa Foundation Iwan Susanto said here on Tuesday.

The ministry is cooperating with the Terang Untuk Bangsa Foundation in distributing and installing the electric wiring.

The 117 families are spread across six villages in Kwadungan Subdistrict: Simo, Sumengko, Dinden, Warokalong, Kwadungan, and Budug.

A survey conducted by the foundation and the ministry revealed that some 4,800 households lack access to electricity in Ngawi District.

Some of these families cannot afford the cost of installing electrical wiring, while others live in areas that have no electricity supply from the state-owned electric company PLN.

These areas with no access to electricity are located on the outer rim of the forest, such as Kasreman and Karanganyar Subdistrict.

Head of the Monitoring, Energy, and Electricity Section of East Java's Energy and Mineral Resource Office Wahyudi Jokos noted that in 2016, four districts will receive free electrical wiring.

"These four districts are Madiun, Pacitan, Ngawi, and Blitar. Some 500 families will receive the grant," Wahyudi stated.
