LGBT support campaign by UI students stirs social media

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- A poster that appeared in social media, Thursday (21/1) stirs many people. In that poster, some students at University of Indonesia offered counseling services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender or known as LGBT.

In that poster, words that said 'LGBT would never be alone, although they were in the hardest times' were also written. Even, there are four UI students that shared their experience as LGBT.

Dimas Mahendra (Faculty of Psychology UI), Luna Siagian (Faculty of Political Science UI), Tegar Ramadhan (alumnus French Literature UI), and Firmansyah (alumnus Faculty of Management and Economics UI) are students that appeared in the poster. They also wrote how to accept their self, that different from other.

"It takes time to accept that I’m a person who different. I even consider myself as a 'fail product', I always pray i could be a normal person and set away from something that I believed as a big sin. But, after getting a lot of information about sexual orientation, I accept myself as a different person," Tegar Ramadhan said in that campaign poster.

Moreover, that poster also invited people who have same problem to support group and resource centre on sexuality studies or they called it as SGRC UI. They seek more thorough understudying of the issues of gender and sexuality, through seminars, discussions, and other activities. They also gave advice whoever wants to know about SGRC UI to visit website www.Melela.org.
