Police: ISIS group of Bahrun Nain leadership behind Jakarta attacks

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Jakarta Police Chief, Inspector General Tito Karnavian said, the police officers currently pursued the terrorist network behind terror attacks in ​​Sarinah, MH Thamrin, Central Jakarta.

"The team is pursuing the terrorist network. They are connected with ISIS network," he said at the State Palace on Thursday (14/1).

Tito explained, group of terrorists in Sarinah was from ISIS network in Southeast Asia led by Bahrun Nain. ISIS network in Indonesia formed under the command of ISIS group leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

"The terrorists are still in touch with a network of ISIS in Raqqa (Syria), first they only operated in Syria and Iraq then there was a command from Abu Bakr Baghdadi to establish branches around the world, including Southeast Asia," he explained.

In Southeast Asia, he added, Bahrun Nain wanted to establish Qatibah Nusantara. So that we already identified the member of groups to be chased.

Previously, Vice Chief Police, Commissioner General Budi Gunawan also confirmed that terror groups in Sarinah was connected with radical groups ISIS. Police detection results stated, there was communication between group of Bahrun Nain and group of Abu Jundi in Solo.
