REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MATARAM -- Two investors want to build steamed power plant (PLTU) in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara with a capacity of 150 megawatts.
Head of the provincial office of Capital Investment Agency (BPMPT) Ridwansyah said one of the prospective investors was a domestic company and another a foreign investor.
"They are now seeking licenses and looking for suitable location in cooperation with the district office of the state electricity company PLN," Ridwansyah said here on Monday.
The domestic investor is PT Adaro seeking to build a PLTU in the Lombok Utara District, and the foreign investors proposed to build one in the regency of Lombok Timur.
Ridwansyah said the two investors are interested in building power plants in Lombok as power requirement is growing in the rapidly growing tourist island.
Many new large hotels have sprung up in Bali's neighboring island to follow the.
"We encouraged long term investment in this island," he said.
State-owned electric company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) also plans to build a number of power plants with a total capacity of 500 MW in West Nusa Tenggara, he said.
The power plants are parts of the government program of building new power plants with a total capacity of 35,000 MW until 2019.
In Lombok alone, PLN plans to build combined cycle power plant (PLTGU) in Bagik Kembar, in the city of Mataram.
In addition a mobile PLTGU would also be built by PLN with a capacity of 50 MW, he said.
The company also will build new units of PLTU Lombok 2 with a capacity of 100 MW and PLTU Lombok FPP 2 with a capacity of 100 MW. The two new units would be built in the sub-district of Sambalia, Lombok Timur District.
