Indonesia to hold sixth Bali Process meeting

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia will host the sixth "Bali Process" meeting on human trafficking and smuggling in March, foreign minister Retno Marsudi said here on Thursday.

"The meeting will discuss erdication of human trfficking and tackle migrant crisis in the region," she said.

Bali Process will be one of the important agendas of the foreign ministry to support the implementation of the country's foreign policy in 2016.

In November last year Indonesia hosted the Jakarta meeting to discuss the root cause ofe unusual movement of people as a series of the Bali Process which is co-chaired with Australia.

Besides the Bali Process Meeting minister Retno said that Indonesia would also host the first inter-faith dialog in the framework of middle powers organizatiion involving Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkey and Australia.

In the context of Indian Ocean cooperation Indonesia which is the chair of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) will follow up the ministerial meeting in Padang, West Sumatra, last year.

In the framework of ASEAN Indonesia will organize an ASEAN ministerial meeting on social welfare and development and ASEAN Committee meeting on disaster management, she said.

"With strong optimism and capacity to develop mutually beneficial cooperation I am convinced 2016 will be a better year," she said.

Apart from strengthening Indonesia's role in international forums the minister said that her office would continue to proritize the country's policy of preserving the sovereignty of the Unitary State of Indonesia, protecting Indonesian citeizens and legal entities and increasing economic diplomacy.
