Eight Indonesian boxer pursue Rio Olympic tickets

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- A total of eight boxing athletes of Indonesia would pursue tickets to follow 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. They must first follow qualification round in Asia Oceania zone in China, 23rd February to 4th March.

"They will compete with boxers from Asia. Boxers who are in the top three will be eligible to get a ticket to the Olympics," said Secretary General of PB Pertina, Martinez dos Santos, in Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday (5/1).

According to him, the athletes that would be sent to the boxing match consisted of five males and three females. Previously, all boxers also underwent a test match in South Korea.

After undergoing a test match in Korea, he explained, all the best boxers from Indonesia prepared for Olympic qualifiers 2015 and immediately underwent a training camp in Cuba to 31st December 2015.

"Today all boxers are prepared for qualifying in Jakarta. They will continue to try to prepare the best," he added.

Here are eight boxers prepared for 2016 Olympic Games qualifiers.

Males:

1. Kornelis Kwangu (Bali/49 kg): Gold medal in Taiwan 2013 and bronze medal in China Open 2014

2. Aldoms Suguro (Jakarta/52 kg): Gold medal and the Best Boxer in VP Cup III Lahat 2014

3. Farrand Papendang (West Papua/60 kg): Bronze medal in VP Cup III 2014

4. Vinky Montolalu (Jakarta/64 kg): Gold medal PON XVIII Riau 2012 and gold medal VP Cup III Lahat 2014

5. Kristianus Nong Sedo (East Kalimantan/81 kg): Gold medal PON XVIII Riau 2012 and gold medal VP Cup III Lahat 2014

Females:

1. Beatrix Suguro (South Kalimantan/48 kg): Gold medal and Best Boxer in VP Cup III Lahat 2014

2. Norbertha Tajun (West Papua/54 kg): Gold medal VP Cup III Lahat 2014

3. Kristina Jamblay (West Papua/57 kg): Gold medal VP Cup III Lahat 2014
