REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Erick Thohir, chairman of President's Cup Organizing Committee, believed that Indonesian football would soon rise. The optimism came after seeing the success of President's Cup tournament hosted by Mahaka Sports and Entertainment last year.

"I am confident and believe that sport in Indonesia, especially football, is heading toward resurrection,'' said Erick in a written statement received by Republika.co.id in Jakarta, Wednesday (6/1).

Erick said he was happy with the success of President's Cup in 2015. He was also glad that the tournament came in the middle of vacuum of competition, which could provide entertainment to the public.

He added, President's Cup contributed taxes amounting to Rp 6 billion. The funds was obtained from the Income Tax and VAT.

"This is a positive achievement of the success of President's Cup,'' he continued.

According to him, President's Cup could be successful because it prioritized transparency in the implementation. He also expected this tournament could be positive for the rise of Indonesian football, following a conflict between PSSI and Ministry of Youth and Sports.

"We will not be possible to do all this alone. It needs cooperation with all parties to make all of this happen," said Erick.
