REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PHNOM PENH -- A truck carrying about 50 Cambodian garment factory workers crashed into a car on Thursday evening, leaving 34 workers injured, a senior labor official confirmed.

The accident took place at 5:30 p.m. local time in Svay Teab district in southeastern Svay Rieng province when the truck was taking those workers to their homes, said Ou Sokhoeun, deputy director of the Svay Rieng provincial labor department.

"According to a report from the traffic police, the workers' truck overturned and spilt those workers onto the street, leaving four workers seriously injured and 30 others slightly injured,"he told Xinhua.

He said the injured people, mostly women, had been sent to hospital soon after the accident.

Transporting garment factory workers in open trucks to and from factories is common in this Southeast Asian country. In May this year, a garment workers'truck crashed into a passenger bus in Svay Rieng province, leaving 18 workers dead.
