REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Chairman of Advisory Council of Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Din Syamsuddin asked MUI Semarang and Kendal to report a case of making trumpets from the Quran covers to the local police. This was because it was considered as an insult to Islam.

"I asked to arrest both the maker and the seller of the trumpets," Din said, in a press release received by Republika.co.id, Monday (28/12).

He also asked Muslims not to overreact to this incident and hand it over to the legal process.

Previously, dozens of new year trumpets made from covers of the Quran were reported to be sold in Kendal, Central Java.

"The police are currently investigating trumpets used the Quran covers as materials," said Central Java Police Chief Inspector General Nur Ali in Semarang, Monday (28/12).

Trumpets made from the Quran covers were allegedly found first by the residents in one of modern stores in Kebondalem, Kendal. Tens of trumpets that have not been sold, were seized in a number of modern stores.
