REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Central Statistics Agency (BPS) data in August 2015 stated that unemployment rate in Indonesia has reached 7.56 million people or 6.18 percent of total labor force of 122.4 million people.

"The amount of unemployment rate is one indicator of our economic condition that must be addressed," said Minister of Labor, Hanif Dhakiri, recently.

He explained, unemployment in Indonesia was caused by two things, namely increased number of labor force and limited job opportunities.

Increased number of labor force happened when graduates could not be able to find jobs. While, limited job opportunities happened due to mismatch between need and supply of labors.

Hanif said, graduates should not only have ability to master science and technology, but also able to manage natural resources. Indonesia, he added, lacked of excellent human resources in competing with other countries due to bad educational system.

"Educational institutions are required to redesign the program by incorporating elements of entrepreneurship education. Formal educational institutions should be able to prepare prospective workers," he added.
