REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, DENPASAR -- Bank Indonesia (BI) Representative Office of Bali found 4,280 pieces of counterfeit money in the period of January to November 2015. The discovery was lower than the previous year which reached 4,733 pieces.

"The findings also show that the public is increasingly recognizing counterfeit money and we are actively socializing authenticity of rupiah," said Head of Bank Indonesia Representative Office Bali, Dewi Setyowati, in Denpasar, Tuesday (22/12).

According to her, most of the counterfeit money was obtained from public reports to the central bank. Mostly the counterfeit money was in form of Rp 100 thousand, Rp 50 thousand, and Rp 20 thousand.

Rupiah, she explained, had been equipped with security thread and three-dimensional ink that can change color. In addition, the original bill was also equipped with some signs that feels rough when touched and special signs for the blind.

BI aggressively conducted socialization to several universities, civil servants in a number of institutions, banks, and supermarket cashiers. BI also launched an application in Android to detect counterfeit rupiah.

"Almost everyone is now using Android smart phone. So I expect, this innovation allows people to recognize the authenticity of the rupiah," she added.
