Indonesian Embassy in Port Moresby repatriates six Papua fishermen

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAYAPURA -- Indonesian Embassy in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea (PNG), Monday (14/12), repatriated six fishermen from Merauke, Papua, which was arrested by soldiers of PNG. Head of Border and Foreign Cooperation of Papua Suzanna Wanggai said, the repatriation was assisted by Indonesian Embassy, after the fishermen finished their sentence in PNG.

Six fishermen repatriated were Rusdy Sinja, Swedi Waris, Muhammad Syaifudin, Ceman Asis, Angga Prastiawan, and Yayan Nurdin. A report from Indonesian Embassy in Moresby stated that the six fishermen were previously sentenced in Bonama prison PNG.

The six fishermen who were crews of Cahaya Riski Merauke vessel were released from Bonama prison since 21st November. Release was done after they served their sentences for four months.

"They are scheduled to arrive in Jayapura on Tuesday (15/12) after flying from Port Moresby to Denpasar," Suzanna explained.
