Pelindo III to build Indonesia's largest fish processing factory

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- State-owned port operator PT Pelindo III said it plans to build the country's largest fish processing factory to cost Rp1 trillion in the port city of Tegal, Central Java.

"The feasibility study of the project is now in the phase of finalization," Djarwo Suryanto, president director of Pelindo III, said here on Thursday.

It now needs only synchronization and coordination with the relevant agencies such as the maritime affairs coordinating minister, the transports and Marine and fishery ministries, Djarwo said on the sideline of a workshop on Synergy of State Companies for Indonesian Transformation.

He said a fishery industrial center would be built not far from the port of Tegal, Central Java.

"If the feasibility study could be wrapped up in the first quarter of 2016, expansion of the port of Tegal could be started by the end of 2016," he said.

The port of Tegal would be modernized not only to serve as other ports, but it would also become a national center of fish processing industry.

The center of fish processing industry would be built over a 25 hectare plot of land.

The center would be equipped with a number of facilities such as a quay with port basin of 7 meter deep in low water spring, cold storage, waste processing facility and fish auction place.

Construction of the center of fish processing industry would be financed with fund from the budget for development of all ports under Pelindo III . Pelindo III has 25 ports small and big.
