OIC holds discussion on Jerusalem future in Indonesia

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Palestine Committee of United Nations (CEIRPP) was in collaboration with Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in holding an international conference on the issue of Jerusalem in Borobudur Hotel, Jakarta, 14th to 15th December 2015. The theme discussed this year was "Addressing present and future of Jerusalem."

Director General of Multilateral Affairs of Ministry of Foreign Affairs Hasan Kleib said, this meeting was held in Turkey last year for the first time. Incidentally, he added, Indonesia is one of the members of UN Palestine committee and was offered to host the international conference.

"Indonesian government accepted the offer of the United Nations Secretariat to host a meeting of Jerusalem this year," Hasan said during a press conference in Jakarta, Tuesday (8/12).

The conference would be attended by ambassadors, permanent members of UN Palestine Committee and state observers of international committee. OIC representatives and non-governmental organizations would also attend this event.

"Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi is scheduled to open the conference. In addition, secretary general of OIC and Palestinian foreign minister is also scheduled to attend, '' he explained.

Then international speakers from Palestine and Israel would discuss current situation of Jerusalem and how to improve international efforts to stop illegal Israeli settlement. Information Center Director of UN Vlastimil Samek said, the speakers from the United Nations, Palestine, Indonesia, and local NGOs would address the main problem of Israel-Palestine conflict in front of representatives from 25 countries.

''Among others are borders, refugees, water, forced placement, including violations of human rights (HAM) faced by Palestinian people,'' he said.
