REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, NUSA DUA -- Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, stated that social media needs to be controlled. According to him, social media should be used for national interests, rather than for a tool to earn money.
"These people must be disciplined. There must be rules in democratic country," said Luhut, on the sidelines of Indonesian Palm Oil Conference (IPOC) 2015, in Nusa Dua, Bali, Thursday (26/11) ,
As is known, Indonesian Police issued Circular No.SE/6/X/2015 related to hate speech. The police officers would investigate accounts on social media that are considered to deliver hate speech.
The hate speech is a criminal offense in the form of insult, defamation, unpleasant acts, provocation, incitement, dissemination of false news, and all act that could have an impact on discrimination, violence, disappearances lives, and social conflict. The police was currently investigating 180 thousand social media accounts in Indonesia.
