REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Tara Basro, the Indonesian artist who won the Indonesian Film Festival (FFI) award 2015 and Indonesian movie director Garin Nugroho, were chosen as Ambassadors of the French Cinema Festival 2015.
Director of the Indonesia Francais Institute (IFI) Marc Piton said here on Wednesday that Garin Nugroho was selected as a liaison person of the Indonesian and French film industries since his film, titled "Daun Di Atas Bantal" (A Leave On A Pillow), was chosen in the category of "Un Certain Regard" at the Cannes Festival Film 1998.
"Garin has been long connecting the Indonesian and French film industries," Piton remarked.
Coordinator of the French Cinema Festival 2015, Arnaud Miquel, explained that Tara Basro was chosen as the ambassador of the cinema festival because of her incredible acting in "A Copy Of My Mind" and was awarded FFI 2015 in the Best Female Actress category.
"Actually, I have been impressed by Tara Basro since her appearance in a film by Ismail Basbeth, titled Another Trip to the Moon," Miquel said.
According to Tara Basro, the French Film Festival provides a wide selection of movies to the Indonesian audience.
"The community can watch films other than Hollywood movies, and of course, French movies are as good as American movies," she said.
She hoped the Indonesian film makers could more freely express themselves by making movies.
