France Cinema Festival to be held in ten cities

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA -- French Cinema Festival 2015 will be held in ten cities in Indonesia.

These cities are Jakarta, Denpasar (Bali), Balikpapan (East Kalimantan), Bandung (West Java), Yogyakarta, Jombang (East Java), Makassar (South Sulawesi), Malang (East Java), Medan (North Sumatra), Surabaya (East Java).

"The festival will take place from December 3 to 6 in Jakarta, and December 4 to 6 in the other nine cities," Director of the Indonesia Francais Institute (IFI), Surabaya Veronique Mathelin, said here on Wednesday.

She said the 20th French Cinema Festival would be an occasion to look at the changes that are very encouraging.

"Today, a new generation of Indonesian film industry is there, as reflected in the talented young filmmakers and the increasing number of IFI partners," she said.

According to Mathelin, eight recent French films will be screened in Indonesia. These include, The Family or La Famille Belier Belier, or La French Connection, The Little Prince or Le Petit Prince, The New Adventures of Aladdin or Les Nouvelles Adventures d'Aladin.

In addition, Taj Mahal, Monkey Business or Pourquoi j'ai mange pas mon pere, Santa Claus! or Le Pere Noel, and Dheepan, will also be shown. The main screening program is called Panorama.

"The Family or La Famille Belier Belier will be the opening film of the festival in Surabaya," she said.

Mathelin added that the Focus program will feature a French-Indonesian co-production titled "Sang Penari" (The Dancer), Garuda Power, The Photograph, and The Mirror Never Lies.
