REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- A lawmaker said Indonesia should play a greater role in the 21st Conference of Parties (COP) of the United Nation Framework on Climate Change (UNFCCC)aimed at saving the earth and mankind.

Greenhouse gases will degrade the ecology quality, the economy even the existence of the state,Andi Akmal Pasluddin of the Commission IV of the Parliament said here on Monday.

Therefore, Indonesia should take more active role in the conference to take place in Paris from Nov. 30 to Dec. 11, Akmal from the Islamic faction of Justice and Prosperous Party, which is member of the opposition coalition.

Currently the air temperature is rising in many parts of the world including Indonesia, causing a climate change that endangers life, he said.

Greenhouse gases including H2O, CO2 (carbon dioxide), CH4 (Methane), N2O (Nitrous Oxide), O3 (ozon), CFC (Chloro Fluoro Carbon) have significantly increase the temperature.

"The COP 21 has to end with an international agreement to cope with the problem," he said.

Each country including Indonesia should have a commitment submitting INDC (Intended Nationally Determined Contribution) to reduce emission of greenhouse gasses, he said.

Earlier, Minister for the Environment, and Forestry Siti Nurbaya said Indonesia would send a delegation to the COP 21 in Paris despite the recent terror attacks that left at least 129 people killed in the French capital.

"We are still firm in our decision to take part in the COP 21," the minister said.

A number of countries have warned their citizen against danger of visiting France after the terror attacks.
