REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Islamic Union (Persis) continued to improve quality of public education. One of its efforts was establishing an Islamic university in Bandung, West Java.
Chairman of Persis, Maman Abdurahman, said that Persis was already proposing the permission to Director General of Higher Education. While waiting for the permission, Persis was continuing the construction of the university building in Ciganitri, Bandung.
"The construction begins with construction of mosque," Maman said, Sunday (22/11).
He was admitted that the college to be established was in the form of an Islamic university. There would be Islamic department and department of science and technology, that will be priorities of the university.
"Indonesia has too many universities focus on social sciences," he continued.
To support these plans, Persis would establish cooperation with well-known universities in Bandung, such as ITB and Padjadjaran University. The cooperation was in the form of borrowing science and technology lecturers. Moreover, the two universities already have capability to teach science and technology.
Related to the name of the university, Maman claimed to already have several options, namely Islamic Union University or University of Ahmad Hassan. Ahmad Hassan, he added, was a name of former chairman of Persis who highly prioritized the tarbiyah.
