REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia was inaugurate as official member of International Energy Agency (IEA) in Paris, France. The inauguration was done in a meeting of world's energy ministers, 17th to 18th November ago.

"I reported to the President the results of meeting of world's energy ministers," said Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Sudirman Said, at the Presidential Palace, in Jakarta, Friday (20/11).

He said in his report to the President, Indonesia has been confirmed as a member of the IEA. Indonesia, he added, was in a group of associated members along with China, Mexico, and Chile.

"Thailand is also applying its membership, because there were no country that can secure its own energy," he said.

According to Sudirman, there should be international cooperation in energy sector. Moreover, Indonesia have also been included in the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

"It means that Indonesia will be in two communities. One is community of oil and gas producers and another is community of renewable energy producers," he explained.

He asserted, that there would be benefits in terms of interaction between members of two different communities. In addition, the advantage of being a member of the IEA was there is access to advanced technology, because most IEA members are developed countries.
