REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, CIREBON -- Two terminals for loading and unloading coals in Cirebon Port, West Java, were temporarily closed. It was because the two terminals were very close to settlements and offices.

"We closed two coal terminals for a while, namely Pelita and Linggarjati terminals. Both terminals are too close to the settlements," said General Manager of Control Performance and Port Facility and Security Officer (PFSO), Iman Wahyu, in Cirebon, Thursday (19/11).

He continued, the closing of the two terminals was done by Pelindo II in order to suppress coal dust. Pelindo II has also taken measures to prevent coal dust.

"We also made a 14-meter-high dust arrester to prevent floating dust," Iman explained.

However, even though the activities of loading and unloading coals at the two terminals were temporarily stopped, the loading and unloading activities was still carried out in Muarajati Terminal, which was far away from residential areas.

He stated, 70 percent of Pelindo II's revenue was from loading and unloading coals activities. He also said that in Cirebon Port, there were also several other activities such as loading and unloading flour, asphalt, LPG and many more.
