Crater of Mt Bromo continues to issue solfatara smoke

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PROBOLINGGO -- Head of Bromo Observation Post, M. Syafii, said the crater of Mount Bromo (2,329 masl) continued to issue solfatara smoke with a height of 50 meters to 100 meters. The smoke were leaning towards the west.

"Visually the smoke can still be seen 50 meters to 100 meters from the crater of Mount Bromo," said Syafii, in Probolinggo, East Java, Thursday (19/11).

Data recorded by Bromo Observation Post, in Cemoro Lawang, Ngadisari Village, Sukapura, Probolinggo, during the last 24 hours showed that there were tremor earthquakes with an amplitude of 0.5 millimeters to 6 millimeters.

"Activity of Mount Bromo is still volatile both seismic and visual, but its status is still alert level II," he added.

In accordance with the recommendation of Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG), the public and tourists were not allowed to enter the area within a radius of one kilometer from the active crater. It was feared that they would inhale toxic gas.

While, Head of Central of Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS), Ayu Dewi Utari, said officers had put ban signs to the crater of Mount Bromo in four entrances. She explained that visitors can still enjoy the sunrise and sunset in Mount Penanjakan, whispering sand, lake, grassland and other panoramic tours in TNBTS.

"Bromo National Park is not closed, it is only limited to the sea of ​​sand since volcanic activity of Bromo showed an increase," she said.
