REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- A total of 500 units of credit and sharia finance cooperatives (KSPPS) was targeted to be established by 2018 in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). Head of Department of Cooperatives and SMEs of NTB, Supran, said there have been 135 units of KSPPS by last September.
"Not only in Lombok but also in other areas," he said, in a press statement received by Republika, Wednesday (18/11).
He said that this target was included in Provincial Department of Cooperative's strategic plan that was released in 2012. The strategic plan referred to the huge potential for sharia economic growth in NTB.
Sapran stated, it was because is the existence of Islamic schools. Hundreds of Islamic schools in NTB were not only active in education sector, but also in economic sector by establishing cooperative units.
"Support of the NTB Governor is also a strong capital to accelerate the growth of sharia cooperatives in NTB," he added.
He revealed, the response of cooperative actors was quite positive . He encouraged a conversion from conventional cooperative to sharia cooperative. In addition, the government also facilitated a notary deed free of cost for the conversion of conventional to sharia.
He hoped that the declaration of Sharia Cooperation Forum recently in NTB, could encourage the growth rate of Islamic micro finance institutions.
