China ready to support Indonesian financial sector

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) received a visit from President of China, Xi Jingping, when following the G-20 Summit, in Antalya, Turkey, on Sunday (15/11).

Presidential Communications Team, Ari Dwipayana, in the press release, revealed that in a meeting held on the sidelines of the G-20 summit, the two leaders agreed to increase cooperation in the field of economics and finance. Besides that, they also discussed a number of issues of global financial.

"President Jokowi welcomes the commitment of Chinese government to help Indonesian financial sector through funding for Indonesian banks and liquidity support," said Ari.

In addition, President Jinping stated the readiness of Chinese Government to improve the Bilateral Currency Swap Arrangement that was given to Indonesia to around 20 billion US dollars.

Ari said, on the occasion, President Jokowi also requested the support of President Jinping that Indonesia could be included in the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and also Indonesia's desire to build AIIB first regional office in Jakarta.

Meanwhile, related to global issues, President Jokowi conveyed Indonesia's plan to push for reform of global financial architecture in the G20, as he had been conveyed in the Asian-African Conference.

"These reforms are needed immediately to create a balance in the international financial system between the developed and developing countries," he said.
