REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAYAPURA -- World Wide Fund (WWF) for Nature continued to help Merauke community in Papua, especially in Rawa Biru and Yaggandur villages to market the distillation of eucalyptus oil. Leader of WWF Southern Papua, Paschalina CH M Rahawarin, said eucalyptus oil produced by Papua's women, was marketed locally in Merauke and also outside Merauke.
"The eucalyptus oils are also sent to Java, such as Surabaya," she said, Friday (13/11).
Paschalina explained, if the oils were sold in large quantities, then the community could get greater profits. The producers were able to return their capital to be managed again.
"Once the delivery is at least 200 to 300 liters to Surabaya," she added.
She said, eucalyptus oil Wallaby brand had been marketed since 1995 until now. Marketing to outside Papua was in an amount of at least 200 kilograms and packed in jerry cans and crates.
"This Wallaby eucalyptus oils are native eucalyptus oil, without other mixed materials," she continued.
Once refining, the producers could get two to three liters of eucalyptus oils. Rawa Biru and Yaggandur village are areas that many produce eucalyptus oil.
In addition to the WWF, there were some escort agencies that participate in the development process of eucalyptus oil refining activities in Wasur National Parks . Those were Department of Industry in 1989-1990, then followed by the WWF in 1991-1997, and Yayasan Wasur Lestari (YWL) 1997 until now.
