Indonesian short movies enliven French Cinema Festival

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - A total of eight short movies made by Indonesian young filmmakers enlivened French Cinema Festival in 2015. The movies became opening movies at the festival that was held for the 20th time.

"This short movies will be on special screening program during the festival,  screened as the opening movies before the French movies," said one of the judges competitions of French Cinema Short Movies Festival 2015, Dimas Jayasrana, at French Cultural Center IFI Jakarta, Thursday (12/11).

Dimas who is also Viddsee manager in Indonesia said the eight short movies were selected from a total of 183 short movies received by IFI in competition of French Cinema Short Movies Festival 2015.

The eight short movies were titled "Bid & Run" by Gugun Ekalaya, "The devil Street" by Salman Farizi, "Faith" by Sinung Winahyoko, "Return to Sender" by Vera Lestafa, "Sandekala" by Amriy Ramadan, "Symbiosis" by Tanjaya Wiranata, "Sleep Tight Maria" by Monica Vanessa Tedja, and "The Taste of Fences" by Sinung Winahyoko.

In its fourth year, the competition has increased quite dramatically in a short movies submission, compared to three years earlier. In addition, the short movies sent by the creators were in form of different genre, 70 percent of fiction, 20 percent of documentary, and 10 percent of animation .

"This year's, Short Movies Competition of French Cinema Festival received 183 short movies. 70 percent of the film comes from outside of Jakarta with various themes," said Coordinator of French Cinema Festival 2015, Meninaputri Wismurti.

The winners also have opportunity to promote their movies at film festivals in France, such as Clermont-Ferrand International Short Movies Festival. In addition, the winners also get a holiday gift to France from Air France.
