PLN opens first switchgear factory in Indonesia

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SERANG -- PT PLN (Persero) through its subsidiary, PT Prima National Service (PLN) Enjiniring opened groundbreaking for switchgear factory (medium voltage panel) for High Voltage (TT) and Extra High Voltage (TET) in Indonesia. The construction of this factory was a cooperation with PT Crompton Prima Switchgear Indonesia (CPSI).

President Director of PT Crompton Prima Switchgear Indonesia (CPSI), Srinivasan MS, said cooperation with PLN was an initiative and efforts in promoting electrical industry in Indonesia. He hoped the presence of the factoey could support growth of electricity sector of the country.

"The factory must meet the domestic demand, mainly from PLN and the export market of Southeast Asia and the Asia Pacific," he said in Cikande Modern Industrial Estate, Serang, Banten, Monday (2/11).

He considered, the electricity sector both operational and investment costs, still has a portion which significantly influence the exchange rate in Indonesia.

"One factor is a high demand for imported goods and services which have not been produced or domestically available," he continued.

In the same place, Regional Business Director of PLN Central Java, Nasri Sebayang, said investment and operating needs in the electricity sector was still very large. It was a challenge for PLN to be able to manage and develop its resources optimally in order to meet those needs.

He stated, one of the most urgent for PLN was currently the optimization of investment and operating costs. For the cost of fuel, for example, PLN in recent years continued to improve the composition of the energy mix by reducing the use of coal, gas, and water power plants.
