REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Foreign Fishing Vessel CM 64029 with China flag was found stranded in waters of Indonesia, Saturday (24/10). Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Susi Pudjiastuti, said a fishing vessel sized 250.48 GT was found in waters of Mundaga Island, about 12 Nautical Mile (NM) western of Tambelan Island, Riau Islands.
Susi explained, the chronology of the Chinese vessel that stranded was begun when there was a report from Tambelan fishermen, on Saturday (24/10) to Navy of Tambelan. They saw there was a ship stranded in waters Mundaga Island.
"The report is followed up by checking the location by Navy of Tambelan along with three members of Koramil Tambelan and four local residents," she said, in a press conference, at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Jalan Medan Merdeka Timur, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (27/10).
He continued, when a team of Navy of Tambelan arrived at the location around 01:00 pm, they found a vessel on the reef of Mundaga Island with a leak in the bow of the vessel. The team tried to pull the vessel, but failed.
"The team brought two crews to the post of Navy of Tambelan to be investigated, while the captain and three other crews were still on board to secure the ship and pumping seawater overboard," she continued.
Based on investigation, Susi added, the team obtained information that the Chinese-flagged vessel was a fish transport vessel with a captain named Yang Hui and five Chinese crews.
The vessel was departed from Hong Kong on 17th October to Indian Ocean to transport fishes. The vessel then stranded in the waters Mundaga Island and its GPS was broken, on Saturday (24/10) at around 04:00 am.
