REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Forest and land fires in Mount Lawu still could not be extinguished until now. This was due to dry weather, strong winds and rugged terrain. Even the fires were spreading to Central Java.

"In Central Java, there are four hotspots. Those hotspots are around plot 63 behind Post 2 of Cemoro Kandang, on Gondosuli, in post 2-3 of Tahura, and a single spot on direction to Jogorogo toward Cetho Temple," said Head of Data Information of National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, in an official statement received by Republika, Sunday (25/10).

He explained that extinguish efforts were still ongoing. Sewu Cemoro was temporarily closed from the visitors. Fires that were leading to settlements was also temporary handled.

The fires were estimated to come from the rest of fire that lighted up again. Currently, 100 personnel consisting of Jagawarna, BPBD, military, police, and community volunteers were deployed to conduct fire control.
