REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Government continued to ask for help from other countries to cope with smoke. Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security, Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, said the Government would ask for fire extinguisher aircraft from three developed countries.

"We'll try to approach to Canada, USA and France," said Luhut after attending a limited cabinet meeting at the President's office, Friday (23/10).

According to the former head of presidential staff, there were currently three types of aircraft used to handle land and forest fires, namely BE-200, Pelican, and Air Tractor. Special to Canada, Indonesia would ask for aircraft that can carry large amounts of water.

"Canada was very advanced in terms of bombardment. Then if we can get five other BE-200, it would be better," Luhut added.

Until now, Indonesia had received a number of foreign aid in dealing with smoke, namely from Singapore, Malaysia, Japan and Russia. Fire fighting efforts through waterbombing and spreading chemicals to the fire, said Luhut, was also still being conducted.
