Indonesian catering service improves quality to face AEC

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MAKASSAR -- The Indonesian Jasaboga (catering service) Company Association (APJI) is focusing on improving the quality of its products in the face of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) 2015.

"The domestic catering product is taken into account in overseas markets, but on the other hand its increase its competitiveness and improve its quality to make its acceptable in domestic and international markets," Chairperson of APJI Ayu Mulyadi here on Thursday said.

To that end, she continued, the organization provides professional certification for catering services throughout Indonesia.

"Currently, the number of APJI members is around 20 thousand across Indonesia. We also have professionals to do the certification," she said.

Vice Governor of South Sulawesi Agus Arifin Numang said it was time for APJI to unite all the potential, strength, and internal cooperation to face AEC 2015.

He said South Sulawesi is rich in culinary such as coto Makassar (a stew with seasoning broth made from ground peanuts). The main ingredient of this soup is beef and it can be mixed with innards such as intestine, liver, lungs, heart, tripe, or cow brain), and pisang ijo (a beverage made of banana).

"We have a great culinary tourism potential which should be developed," Numang said.

APJI is a forum for Indonesian companies and entrepreneurs engaged in food and beverages services.
