Japan delivers foam to extinguish fire in Sumatra

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PALEMBANG -- Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) provided 2,000 liters of raw material for extinguish land and forest fires. The raw materials were in form of foam, under the name Alpha Plus Miracle. It arrived at Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Airport Palembang, Saturday (17/10).

"The foam was in 20-liter of jerrycans. Japan have sent 50 jerrycans and the rest will arrive on Monday (19/10)," said Head of Data Information and Public Relations of National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, Saturday (17/10).

JICA's assistance, he added, would be placed in Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of South Sumatra.

He explained, the Miracle Foam could be used either with clean water or seawater. It has a four-year expiration date and is only used by 1 percent ratio of mix with water.

Morita Holdings Corporation as a manufacturer of Miracle Foam, was claimed to produce environmentally friendly materials. The foam does not contain toxic materials and PFOS as environmental hormones and heavy metals.

It was not the first time JICA provided support and assistance in extinguishing forest fires. JICA has contributed to efforts to extinguish fire for 20 years.

"We hope that this assistance will contribute to the efforts of extinguishing fires led by BNPB," said Chief Representative of JICA Indonesia, Ando Naoki.

Director of Emergency Assistance of BNPB, Eko Budiman, symbolically received Japanese assistance of JICA on Saturday (17/10) in BPBD of South Sumatra. Related to the Miracle Foam Plus, JICA also sent an expert, Kiyoshi Moritaka, to explain the use of the foam.
