BNPB: Australian aircraft joins operation to overcome smoke

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) stated that Hercules L382G "bomber" of Australia would strengthen the joint operation to extinguish land and forest fires.

"Air operations will be strengthened by addition of one unit of Hercules L382G 'bomber' from Australia that were capable to carry 15 thousand liters of water," said Public Relations of BNPB, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, in Jakarta, Tuesday (13/10).

The aircraft from Australia was scheduled to arrive on Tuesday (13/10) afternoon at 18:00 pm and would be operated at 13th to 20th October 2015 in South Sumatra.

"Aircraft of Australia is expected to accelerate efforts to extinguishing forest fire," he added.

Meanwhile, the joint operation from Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore continued to do water bombing from the air to extinguish fires in Air Sugihan, Cengal and Indralaya of Ogan Komering Ilir, South Sumatera.

In the joint operation, 10 helicopters and aircraft for bombing water were deployed.

"Six helicopters and two Air Tractor from Indonesia do the 'water bombing' 149 times in Air Sugihan and East Pedamaran," he explained.

Meanwhile, Singapore Chinook helicopter did water bombing six times in Pedamaran. Meanwhile, Bombardier aircraft from Malaysia did water bombing 13 times in Cengal.
