REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PEKANBARU -- Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) stated, 90 hotspots which caused land and forest fires, were detected in Sumatra, Monday (12/10).
"Mostly occurred in South Sumatra with 65 hotspots," said Head of BMKG of Pekanbaru, Sugarin, through short messages, in Pekanbaru.
He said detection of hotspot by using Terra and Aqua satellites, were updated at 05.00 am. According to him, hotspots were also detected in Lampung by 14 points, in Jambi by one point, and Bengkulu by two points.
"In Riau, there are eight hotspots spread in Meranti Islands and Pelalawan, each of them have three points and Bengkalis has two points," he added.
He said, in general the weather in Riau was in foggy conditions with visibility reached one kilometer in Pekanbaru. Bad visibility due to smoke occurred in Dumai by 500 meters, Pelalawan by 700 meters and Indragiri Hulu by 800 meters.
Meanwhile, based on data from Riau Smoke Emergency Task Force, air monitoring by using Sikorsky helicopters was detecting large fire in Gasib, Siak District.
