REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MALANG -- Deputy Governor of East Java, Saifullah Yusuf, said that East Java Provincial Government would review license of mining in East Java, which were totaled 900 mining. He considered, cases of abuse that killed Salim Kancil, a farmer from Lumajang, could be a momentum to evaluate all mining activities. One of them was about licensing.
"The provincial government is evaluating existing mining license in East Java, which is issued by city government," he said, in Malang, Tuesday (6/10).
He stated that this year the provincial government has authority to grant permission for mining activities. While, so far the authority was in the district/city.
With that authority,the provincial government will be firmed to oversee mining. If there is no license, the government will impose sanctions on the miners.
"We also have to sort out the illegal mining. Local people have to take their needs such as building houses and others," he added.
He explained that there were mining that have modern machines but no permission. So that, the provincial government will be more selective to see illegal mining.
