REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SUKABUMI -- The Indonesian Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman said ornamental flowers business from Sukabumi of West Java Province has bright economic potential to be developed.
"The ornamental flower business has good economic potential. I was surprised to hear that the flower growers in Selabintana of Sukabumi District can achieve RP140 million in profit each month," the minister said here Tuesday during his visit to Dracaena ornamental flower cultivation center.
The ministry will promote the flower cultivators to create an ornamental flower center in West Java Province, Amran said. The flower business can be developed by creating the Selabintana flower center as the pilot project for the sector, he added.
The business prospect of ornamental flowers is wide open because the Sukabumi flower cultivators are yet to fulfill the international demand. The government, says the minister, will assist the cultivator by providing raw materials and financial support.
Amran hoped the cultivator can manage the assistance effectively to achieve the best results.
"There are many ornamental flowers that have been exported. But the opportunity to develop the business is still wide open. We hoped the increasing export opportunity of the flowers can improve the welfare of cultivators," the minister said.
Sukabumi has suitable area and conditions for the cultivators to develop a flower cultivation center because the district has fertile soil and abundance of water supply.
Amran also asked other cultivators in Indonesia to learn the business development to Sukabumi.
