REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Chairman of Advisory Council of Indonesia Ulema Council (MUI) Din Syamsuddin, was appointed as a member of the United Nations' (UN) Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN).
This agency was created by the UN Secretary to provide solution to the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). SDGs which was the successor to MDGs would be ratified by the UN General Assembly on 25th to 27th September this year.
SDSN consisted of hundred of leaders from various fields such as former officials, academics, businessmen, professionals, and religious leaders. Din Syamsuddin was chosen to represent Islam (in his capacity as Co-President of Religions for Peace and was then Chairman of Muhammadiyah).
SDGs that are immediately applied in all countries, need support of all sectors of society. SDSN then serves as a controlling and monitoring its implementation through a global partnership among all sectors of government and civil society.
There are a number of Thematic Groups in accordance with Agenda 17 of SDGs, such as poverty, illiteracy, unemployment, gender justice, or environmental damage, and others. The religious leaders are required to give an ethical perspective for the adoption of the agenda.
Din felt honored and delighted to join the world organization. He said that he will provide the best ideas for development and humanitarian.
