Govt seeks science-tech cooperation with Russia

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MOSCOW -- Indonesia's government, through the Research, Technology, and Higher Education Ministry, seeks ways to enhance cooperation in science and technology during a meeting titled "ASEAN-Russia WG on Science and Technology" held in Moscow, Russia, September 23-24.

"The meeting will discuss ways to enhance the ongoing cooperation in the fields of education, science and technology in future," Secretary General of Research, Technology, and Higher Education Ministry Ainun Naim stated on Wednesday.

She pointed out that the government has outlined an agenda to facilitate two-way exchange of information on technological developments.

Various agendas, such as a workshop, student exchange programs, and cooperation on research will be discussed in the meeting.

"We will also discuss the use of various technologies in sectors, such as advanced materials, the use of nuclear technology for the welfare of the people, and information technology, among others," she remarked.

Ainun remarked that several Indonesian students are studying in Russia. Indonesian students in Russia reached 300, which is an increase from 100 in the previous year.

She noted that the government will continue to make efforts to increase the number of Indonesians studying in Russia in the next few years.
