Indonesia possibly be 4th polluter country in the world

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Land and forest fires in some areas in Sumatra and Kalimantan invited concern of Indonesian religious leaders. Coinciding with the commemoration of World Peace Day in 21st September 2015, a number of interfaith leaders declared "Indonesia Moves to Save the Earth" or EARTH ALERT

Chairman of the Presidium of the Inter-Religious Council (IRC) Indonesia, Prof Din Syamsuddin became chairman of the directing team of IRC. In the declaration, Din confirmed the importance of environment to create global peace.

In front of hundreds of participants, including the Minister of Environment and Forests (LHK) Siti Nurbaya and the Assembly Speaker Zulkifli Hasan, Din conveyed structural and cultural approaches to peacemaking.

"Indonesia is known as one of the biggest polluter countries in the world. Ten countries that created the biggest polluters. Some say, Indonesia was in number nine or number six," said Din, in Peace Park, the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Monday (21/9).

According to him, currently the world is not facing war, but the absence of- peace which was seen in poverty, ignorance, inequality, discrimination, until the damage to the environment.

The EARTH ALERT would cooperate with the Ministry of LHK for the campaign to save the environment with number of actions, such as promoting the concept of ecological house of worship. EARTH ALERT consisted of a number of religious organizations, such as MUI, KWI, PGI, MATAKIN, Parisada Hindu, Walubi, NU and Muhammadiyah, as well as world environmental organization, WWF.
