REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Education expert of Global Islamic School (GIS), Itje Chodijah, said that parents need to guide their children to prevent bullying, especially in school. Parents should also point out good behavior, because children at that age are keen to follow what they see.
On parental education, Itje revealed, busyness was one reason for the lack of childcare. The parents should be able to provide even a little time to discuss with their children about what is right and wrong.
"Until the age of 12, children still need guidance to be able to distinguish what is right and wrong," said Itje, Sunday (20/9).
Itje argued, giving attention to children was not only a duty of teachers but also parents. The bullying attitude could be from parents' guidance, such as allowance to watch inappropriate television programs.
"Bullying action on television programs also have an influence on child's behavior. Parents should be able to conduct coaching and supervision when children watch programs that are not appropriate," she added.
Parents also have to keep an eye on the games that have always been played by their children. This was necessary because it could also affect child's behavior.
